Cheers to You!

Happy New Year!

We’re facing the first full week of 2020 and you’re probably already over the “New Year, New Me” posts in your timeline. You may be off to a fantastic start on whatever your goal is or if you’re like me you may already be calling for a redo. Regardless of where you are, I hope that you didn’t close out 2019 without taking a moment to reflect.

Maybe 2019 was “your year”. Maybe you landed a new job or a new boo. You may have gotten engaged or married or had a baby. This might have been the year that you finished school and were able to chase your dreams and take on new adventures. That’s amazing. Take a moment to stop and be thankful for your blessings.

These are the things that make our lives rich.

For many, 2019 was a rough year. It was full of health scares and financial strains. Maybe you lost a loved one or a job. Perhaps you were wallowing in anxiety and depression and you were at the edge of losing your mind. Some of us lost relationships and some of us held on to relationships that we should’ve let go.

These were trying times and you’re over being tried.

It’s quite likely that your year was a mixture of the two, full of highs and lows. It may not have been the worst, but you aren’t sad to see it go either. After all, this next year is without a doubt going to be “your year”.

The thing about all of this is that while we look to 2020 as being bright and new, the fact remains that whatever we went to bed with on Dec. 31st, we woke up with it on Jan. 1st. There’s no magic switch that flipped inside of us when the ball dropped at midnight. What was in us before is still there.

And that’s a beautiful thing.

Did you think it wasn’t?

I don’t care how discouraging your year was, how frustrating your days were. It doesn’t matter how many times you cried or how many times you thought “I’ll never make it through this”. If you’re reading this, then you did. You made it through.

Every single day.

All three hundred and sixty-five of them.

That’s 12 months, 52 weeks, 8,760 hours and 525,600 minutes.

You pushed through. And you were strong and resilient. You persevered.

If last year was amazing for you, then I hope you have 365 more years of “living your best life”. Don’t take a single day for granted and keep on making each one of them count.

So, here’s to you, my friends.

Cheers to your indomitable spirit.

To you making it another day.

To you walking boldly with your head held high.

And cheers to you facing this new year, this new decade. May you face it with bravery, optimism, and a renewed spirit.
