In many ways, I consider myself to be a “jack of all trades”. That sounds good until you consider the back half of the statement “and a master of none”. I’ve always had a spattering of gifts and talents. However, I’ve never had that one thing that, I believe, speaks to my purpose, that makes my heart sing and lets me know that “I was created for this”. I’ve just kind of felt like I was floating through life without that one, true purpose to count on as my guiding light.
Maybe you feel that way. Maybe you’re looking at everyone else’s social media highlight reels and feeling lost, behind and confused. Perhaps, you’ve got a lot of little gifts but when you bring them to the table, they don’t look like much compared to someone else’s singular heaping helping of talent. What can I do with my crumbs in comparison to their plenty?
Honey, in the right hands, those crumbs are a whole lot. You were created for this. There is a unique spot that only you can fill, but you’re not going to get it done if you’re just watching everyone else.
Be Ready!
An old boss of mine once told me that if you stay ready, then you don’t have to get ready. Hone your skills and gifts. There’s going to be a season when it’s your time to shine and you’re not going to have time to scramble around trying to get it together. If you don’t know exactly what those talents are, then start thinking about what comes naturally to you. What are you good at without really needing to try? That’s the secret to finding your innate gifts.
Then you might ask, which of those talents do I use? What do I work on?
All of them. If the Lord gave it to you, then there’s a purpose for it. It’s not your job to dictate God’s purpose, but it is your job to be ready when it’s revealed. So, be in the business of you and I don’t just mean in sharing tweets, snaps, live streams and chats. I mean make yourself your best product and be your own biggest promoter. Your gifts are not tiny. Your talents are not minuscule. You have a seat at the table. If you’re willing to put in the work, you can be just as relevant as the person you’ve been watching. You know that person who seems larger than life to you.
Prepare. Your time is coming, and you don’t want to miss it because you weren’t ready to take your shot. Maybe your moment won’t be big or loud. Maybe your moment won’t be over the top; however, it will be yours and it’ll be what you were created for.
